You Are Worthy

While scrolling through my Instagram feed I found this beautiful illustration stating, “You are worthy, even when you don’t feel like it.” That struck me like lightening, but also provided a sense of comfort. Since the loss of our daughter Wendy, my life seemed unclear. I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I “grew up”. I didn’t know if I would be a mother again. I didn’t know what my life had in store.

Sometimes, I feel like I failed as a woman. I became so frustrated and angry about the fact that my body couldn’t produce a healthy baby. The dream of having a family of my own feels so far-fetched.

However, once coming to the realization of my own frustrations and anger, I decided to invest in my own well-being. Shifting my focus from my short comings, to my potential. What did I want to do with my life? How can I be a better wife? How can I be a better friend? What else is there in the world? What opportunities can I grab a hold of?

Grief brought a new light to my life. What is holding me back from perusing my dream? Why do I feel stuck when there are so many opportunities out there? I have come to realize that I am worthy of greatness. I am worthy of happiness. I am worthy of fulfillment. So, I made it happen. I went back to school to pursue my dream career, a high school history teacher.

Realizing that I am worthy stemmed from my experience with child loss. I wish I learned it another way, but that’s what life is. A continuous journey of self-development through a reliance on God for strength, wisdom, and peace.

I encourage you, if you feel stuck, unsure, or life seems unclear try to focus on what makes you happy. What is your passion. What do you want to invest in. Just go for it. What is stopping you? Fear? Self-doubt? Insecurity? Do not let those negative influences dictate your life and future. It’s not worth it. Your greatness, happiness, and fulfillment are worth much much more.

You are worthy to start your own business. You are worthy for happy relationships. You are worthy of a career that brings you fulfillment.

“You are worthy, even when you don’t feel like it.”
